This talk explores the emerging sexual orientation Asexuality, taking a look at some of the academic research on Asexuality, as well as engaging with some asexual people's experiences. 

An overview of the research on bisexuality. Focuses on specific issues facing bisexual people and what to do about them, 

This is theortetical discussion of a chapter I authored for my PhD thesis, which looks at ways to reconcile the different approaches of psychology and sociology to prejudice, and how this can be applied to the studyt of sexual prejudice. This talk draws on feminist, poststructrualist, and queer theory to discuss different strands of theory, and weave them together for applications to sexuality. 

I present the history of sexuality studies from  its origins in the 19th Century to the present day, including the many paradigm shift of how we think about sex, sexuality and gender. New explanatory frameworks have arisen since the dawn of the 21st Century, encompassing the increasing diversity and complexity which people choose to define their sexual identities. One such theory of Sexuality is Sexual Configurations Theory (van Anders, 2015), which argues that as the limits of sexual orientation are prohibiting to identity development, we must move beyond sexual orientation, towards a better understanding of the complexities of human sexuality. SCT is one of many new theories of sexuality that have emerged. This seminar will discuss some of the new prominent theories of sexuality in the 21st Century, their explanatory power, and their applications in explaining human sexuality, gender, and identity.
